ARTSblock
The Arts are Alive at UCR
UCR brings a creative edge to downtown Riverside at the ARTSblock, where three premier arts venues feature ambitious exhibits, events and programs, making Riverside an integral part of the Southern California arts scene.
In a collaborative partnership between UCR and the city of Riverside, ARTSblock provides a cultural presence, educational resource, and intellectual meeting ground for the university and community. Located in three adjacent renovated historic buildings, ARTSblock consists of:
- UCR/California Museum of Photography, one of the most comprehensive photographic museums in the United States, offering innovative photography and video exhibitions, a community digital studio, and one of the world's largest collections of photography and photographic equipment.
- Sweeney Art Gallery, an artistic laboratory featuring exhibitions and programs that are committed to experimentation, innovation, and the exploration of art. At the center of the gallery's mission is an appreciation for the role of artists developing the intellectual and cultural life of society.
- Culver Center of the Arts, scheduled for completion in 2009, will provide studios and performance spaces for dance, music, theater, digital art, photography, creative writing, poetry, and film. Designed as a catalyst for the intersection of arts and technology, the Culver Center will promote advanced research and instruction in the arts.
